MONTREAL, QUEBEC -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 10/02/2006 -- Birim Goldfields Inc. (
The focus of the follow up drill program is to assess the continuity and strike length of the intersected gold mineralization with 24 planned holes on 9 fences, spaced 150 to 200 meters apart (see map). A minimum of 1,000 meters of reverse circulation (RC) drilling is planned.
The Chert Ridge Prospect is situated on a major northeast trending structural lineament that can be traced for over 70 km on airborne geophysical images of the area. The main target zone at Chert Ridge corresponds to a 6 km-long, +50ppb gold-in-soil anomaly, of which 3 km exceeds the 100ppb level. Mapping has confirmed that the anomaly is co-incident with an intensely sheared contact zone between phyllitic metasediments and metavolcanics. The intrusion of dykes and extensive alteration typically associated with shear zone hosted deposits in Ghana along the full strike extent of the mineralized have further enhanced the prospectivity of this target. The recently completed Induced Polarisation (IP) geophysical survey on Chert Ridge identified a number of conductors and chargeable resistors that correspond with the trend of the main target zone.
The target definition RC drill program will significantly advance exploration efforts at Chert Ridge by systematically extending drill coverage over 1,600 meters of strike length over this extensive target.
Upon completion of this program, and whilst the drill rig is onsite, an additional 5 RC scout holes totalling 350 meters are scheduled to test a number of similar targets situated further along the strike of the Chert Ridge gold zone. These scout targets include highly anomalous sheared rock outcrops, which have returned grades of 6.8 g/t, 7.8 g/t and 12.8 g/t of gold. Future drilling will entail selected infill and extension drilling to test the defined mineralized structure along its extensive strike extent.
