THUNDER BAY, ON -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 10/12/2006 -- Benton Resources Corp. (TSX-V: BTC) ("the Company") is pleased to announce that it has discovered high-grade gold mineralization of up to 25.4gpt (gram per tonne) collected from bedrock grab samples on the Armit Lake property northwest of Thunder Bay, Ontario. In addition to the new gold showing, several boulders grading up to 1.24% copper and 1.61gpt gold have been identified. A mechanical trenching program is currently underway to locate the source of this important new find.

Prospecting in late June had identified high-grade nickel values in bedrock that returned up to 4.17% Ni to the southeast of the new gold and copper showings. The nickel mineralization appears to be associated with sheared and serpentinized ultramafic rocks whereas the new copper and gold mineralization appears more related to iron formation (silica- (chert) and sulphide-facies). The ultramafic rocks and iron formation units are in close proximity and/or in contact with each other. The Company has recently initiated an exploration program consisting of prospecting, line-cutting and mechanical trenching to expand the known mineralization and uncover additional zones. Immediately after the grid has been established, a program of geological mapping and ground geophysics (magnetics, electromagnetic) will begin. Assays were completed by Accurassay Laboratories of Thunder Bay, Ontario.

The Armit Lake Project has seen very little previous work and recently constructed logging roads have improved access to the property. The results from Armit Lake thus far have been very positive and the Company is excited about the potential of this 100% owned property. Further results will be released over the next few weeks as they are received.
