VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 09/01/2006 -- The Board of La Quinta Resources Corp ("La Quinta or LAQ") (TSX VENTURE: LAQ) is pleased to announce the appointment of Malcolm Swallow, to the position of Chairman of the Board and CEO of the Corporation. Malcolm, who has been a director of the Company since its inception, has agreed to take over the role of CEO from Glen Watson in the light of the need for increased technical direction of the Company, following on from the recent agreement to option and explore 7,010 square kilometres in one of the major gold belts in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC.) (See Press Release 06-10, issued 28th August 2006)

The two major gold belts in the DRC are currently being actively explored by Moto Goldmines Ltd (TSX: MGL) and Banro Corporation (TSX: BAA) with very positive results. The Company's recent signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with Wa Balengela Kasai Investments-Congo sprl. (WBK) to form a Joint Venture Company and explore the largest land position in the Twangiza Namoya gold belt, exposes the Company to this largely under-explored area, with its long history of past production, abutting Banro's two premier properties of Lugushwa and Namoya.

Mr. Swallow is a Vancouver based Mining Engineer, (B.Sc. - Hons. Mining Engineering - Imperial College, London), with over 30 years operating and management experience in the Industry. He is an Associate of the Royal School of Mines, a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining and a Chartered Engineer in the UK. He is also a registered Professional Engineer in British Columbia, Canada. His career started in Zambia, where he worked as a mine engineer on the copper mines and since then has spanned the globe, including periods as the Managing Director, or CEO of a number of listed UK and Canadian Public Companies in both exploration and mine development.

Glen Watson, the Company's President, commented, "The appointment of Malcolm Swallow to the role of Chairman and CEO is the first step in the re-organisation of the Company to advance our new initiative in the DRC, where we are now the largest exploration landholder in the highly prospective Twangiza-Namoya gold belt. The size of this land holding means that we need to rapidly move forward with our partners WBK, to develop targets and to add shareholder value. Malcolm's experience on both the production and exploration side of the business will give us a head start on our aim to move this project forward as fast as possible."

La Quinta Resources Corporation is currently drilling one of its two gold properties in South Eastern BC and has recently acquired a 6,000 hectare land position in the southern Sonora Gold belt in Mexico. It has just signed an MOU with WBK to form a Joint Venture and explore and develop 7,010 square kilometres in one of the major gold belts in the DRC. Further discussion of the new initiative by La Quinta Resources in the Democratic Republic of Congo and our other projects can be found on the Company's web site at www.laquintaresources.com.

On Behalf of the board

Glen R. Watson, President and CEO
